About Us

Clerkenwell Films is a leading independent production company based in London producing high quality television drama for a large audience.

Run by the two directors of the company, actor John Hannah and producer Murray Ferguson, Clerkenwell Films has a strong reputation in the UK, developing programmes for all of the major broadcasters.

Clerkenwell Films was formed in 1998 by Murray Ferguson and John Hannah. Having worked together on several successful dramas including the hit series McCallum, they shared an ambition to establish a production company that would produce popular, quality drama.

Diary of a Nobody

4x30 min adaptation of George & Weedon Grossmith's comedy classic by Andrew Davies for the BBC, starring Hugh Bonneville and directed by Susanna White.

Persuasion

1x2hr film for ITV1. An adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, written by Simon Burke, directed by Adrian Shergold and starring Sally Hakwins and Rupert Penry-Jones.

Afterlife Series 2

8x1 Hour for ITV1. Second series of the multi award-winning supernatural drama Starring Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln.

Losing It

1x90min film for ITV1. Based on writer Paul Mendelson's own experience, Martin Clunes stars in this warm and funny film, playing a man forced to reassess his life after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. Starring Martin Clunes, Holly Aird and James Lance

Afterlife

6 x 1 hour supernatural series for ITV1, created and written by Stephen Volk and starring Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln.

Quite Ugly One Morning

1 x 2 hour film of, an adaptation of Christopher Brookmyre's award winning novel for ITV1 starring James Nesbitt, Annette Crosbie, Mark Benton and Daniela Nardini.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

1 x 2 hour film for Bravo and Universal Television, starring John Hannah and David Warner.

Rebus

4 x 2 hour thrillers for ITV1 adapted from Ian Rankin's best selling Inspector Rebus novels and starring John Hannah.

People

Murray Ferguson, Company Director and Producer, has specialised in developing and producing long-running drama series for television. His work includes The Diary Of A Nobody, Persuasion, Afterlife (series 1 and 2), Losing It, Quite Ugly One Morning, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and the series Rebus. He also produced the pilot and series McCallum, Taggart and The Advocates for ITV and Badger for the BBC. He was selected by Polygram to attend the first Fastlane programme in London and Los Angeles and has also Executive Produced for Scottish Media Group.

John Hannah, Company Director, has acted in numerous films including: New Street Law for BBC, Cold Blood for ITV, Four Weddings And A Funeral, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Sliding Doors, The Hurricane, Resurrection Man, and The James Gang. His television work includes: MDs for ABC, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde for Bravo/Universal Television, Rebus and McCallum for ITV and Truth Or Dare and Out Of The Blue for BBC. Guest appearances include Frasier, Carnivale and Alias.

Petra Fried, Head of Drama, has been at Clerkenwell Films since 2000 and is involved in all the company's productions. Prior to this she was Drama Development Executive for Scottish Television, where she developed Forgive and Forget for ITV, and The Escapist, a feature film for Sky. She was Features Development Executive at BFI Production, where she developed Jasmin Dizdar's Beautiful People, winner of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 1999, and she also worked for production company Tall Stories on various films including Andrew Kotting's Gallivant.

Ellie Wood Ellie has been Head of Development since April 2006. Prior to this she was senior script editor at BBC Drama Serials for four years where she worked on, among other things, Bleak House, Sorted, The Line of Beauty, The Family Man and He Knew he Was Right. She also worked in BBC Drama Serials as a script editor on Casualty.

Andy Baker graduated with a degree in English and American Lit from University of East Anglia in 1999. Andy worked for a number of independent production companies before joining Clerkenwell Films as a Development Executive in 2001. Since then he has script edited all the company's dramas and works across the development slate.

Matt Jarvis graduated with an MA in Producing for Film and Television from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2004. After working at World Productions for eighteen months Matt joined Clerkenwell Films as a Development Assistant in April 2006. Matt reads script submissions as well as working on new ideas for the development slate.
